The XM minimum deposit on the public account menu is USD 5 for the Standard card and the Ultra Low card, and USD 10,000 for the Shares card. When the deposit currency is not US dollars, that menu treats the printed figure as the equivalent in the currency you send. A payment method can require more than the account floor. Meeting either number does not authorise a resident of India to remit margin overseas.

Forex and CFD positions can consume more than the cash you send. A low account floor is an entry figure on a menu. It is a poor estimate of the margin, spread, and loss on the trade you actually want.

Account floor, method minimum, and the currency equivalent.

Three amounts sit on top of each other

Readers usually collapse three figures into one. The account floor is the smallest balance the account card asks for before that account can be used. The method minimum is the smallest transfer the card, bank, or e-wallet will accept, and it appears on the funding screen for that method. The usable budget is the margin for the volume you intend to open, plus room for spread and a losing move.

A USD 5 credit can satisfy the Standard or Ultra Low floor and still sit under the method minimum, or under the margin for 0.01 lot. A USD 10,000 Shares floor answers a different account. Copying one of those numbers onto the other two produces the wrong transfer.

What the account menu prints

On the public account menu, the Standard card and the Ultra Low card each show a minimum deposit of USD 5. The Shares card shows USD 10,000. The same page says that if the currency you deposit is not US dollars, the amount shown is the equivalent in the deposit currency. Typing the digit 5 in rupees does not meet a USD 5 floor.

The XM screening card on this site prints a minimum deposit of 5 USD beside a leverage line. Use that card to find the broker entry. Read the live account card and the client agreement for the floor and the leverage that apply to you. A stack of licence numbers on the card does not attach every licence to a resident of India.

The company named on the client agreement is the company whose funding rules you are accepting. Keep that name next to the account type before you compare a USD 5 card with a USD 10,000 card.

A USD 5 balance and a 0.01 lot

Take one worked example and keep the assumptions visible. EURUSD at 1.1000, a position of 0.01 lot, and a contract of 1,000 currency units. Notional value is 1,000 times 1.1000, or USD 1,100. At a margin rate of 1 percent, required margin is USD 11. A USD 5 balance is USD 6 short of that margin before spread.

xm-min-deposit-margin-cartoon.jpg
In this example, USD 5 does not cover USD 11 of margin.

If the agreement allows a lower margin rate, the cash required for the same 0.01 lot falls. The symbol specification and the leverage cap on that agreement decide the rate. Run the volume you intend to trade through the margin calculator, and convert a non-dollar floor with the currency converter before you treat a menu figure as enough to open the trade. Both tools return an estimate from the numbers you type.

What to read on the funding screen

The method you will actually use can set its own minimum above the account floor. Open the funding screen for that method and read the minimum printed there. A card payment, a local transfer, and an e-wallet can show different floors, and the list itself changes by the account’s country and entity. There is no single India rail minimum to copy from the account menu.

Compare three lines after any transfer that does go through: the amount you instructed, the amount the payment service deducted, and the amount credited on the trading account. The account floor is tested against the credited balance. A bank charge can leave the credit under USD 5 even when the instruction said USD 5, or under the rupee equivalent of that floor.

Also compare the name on the payment account with the name on the trading account. A payment from someone else’s account is a common reason a credit sits unmatched. Use the same name the agreement already holds.

India: the Alert List and LRS come first

For a person resident in India, the menu price is the later question. The Reserve Bank of India’s Alert List, updated as on 19 November 2025, names XM and xm.com at item 33. The list describes entities that are neither authorised to deal in forex under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999, nor authorised to operate an electronic trading platform for forex transactions. The list is not exhaustive. Absence from it would not, by itself, prove authorisation.

The Master Direction on the Liberalised Remittance Scheme, updated as on 6 September 2024, says remittances for margins or margin calls to overseas exchanges or an overseas counterparty are not allowed under the scheme. The RBI FAQ answers the same point in one line: a resident individual cannot remit margin overseas under LRS for online forex trading. A USD 5 floor does not create an exception.

Checks that sit in front of any transfer from India.

An overseas licence on one group company does not create an Indian authorisation, and a cashback arrangement does not change that test. The longer verification path, including how to read a screening card against the register, is on how residents can check a forex platform.

A rebate or a bonus does not pay the floor

A rebate is calculated later, on trades that meet the programme rules. It does not reduce the cash that must be credited before the account floor is met. A deposit bonus is a separate promotion, with its own qualifying deposit, timing, and withdrawal conditions. Credit from a promotion is not the same line as money you sent. The split between those two is set out in rebate versus deposit bonus, and the eligibility tests for a rebate sit in account rebate eligibility.

If a balance is large enough to open a position, the rebate calculator can estimate a per-lot figure from the inputs you enter. That estimate is not a deposit discount, and it is not evidence that the first transfer has been credited.

A small balance can be charged later

The costs and charges document that identifies a CySEC licence describes a dormant account as one with no trading, deposits, or withdrawals for at least 90 calendar days. On that schedule the monthly dormant fee is USD 10, or the full free balance when the free balance is under USD 10. A zero balance is not charged, and a zero-balance account can be archived after 90 calendar days. A USD 5 free balance sits inside that under-USD-10 case, so the fee described there can take the whole remaining balance.

That clause belongs to the company named in that document. If your agreement names a different company, read the dormant clause there instead of importing the USD 10 figure. Either way, a balance that only just clears the account floor has little room for a later inactivity charge.

Before you treat a menu minimum as a funding plan, line up four items: the company on the client agreement, the RBI Alert List and the LRS margin rule if you are resident in India, the account card you would actually open, and the credited amount against both that floor and the margin of the position. How this site separates leverage risk from a headline deposit figure is summarised on the about page.

Questions readers ask before funding

What is the XM minimum deposit on the public account menu?

The Standard card and the Ultra Low card each show USD 5. The Shares card shows USD 10,000. Use the card for the account you would open, then confirm it against the client agreement.

Does USD 5 apply to every XM account?

No. Shares is listed at USD 10,000 on the same menu. Another entity can also show a different account name. Read the card attached to your agreement rather than one worldwide floor.

If I deposit in rupees, is the minimum 5 rupees?

The account menu says a non-dollar deposit uses the equivalent of the printed US dollar figure. Five rupees is not the equivalent of USD 5. Compare the credited balance, after conversion, with the floor on your account card.

Can the payment method ask for more than the account floor?

Yes. Cards, bank transfers, and e-wallets can each print their own minimum on the funding screen, and the list depends on the account. Read the method you will use. Do not assume it matches USD 5.

Will USD 5 cover a 0.01 lot?

In the example on this page, 0.01 lot of EURUSD at 1.1000 with a 1 percent margin rate needs USD 11. Your symbol specification can produce a different margin. Calculate that figure before you fund only the account floor.

Should I copy the 5 USD line from the broker card?

Use the card to locate the broker entry. The funding figure and the leverage that bind you are on the account you open and on the client agreement. The Shares floor and a method minimum can both differ from that 5 USD line.

Does a deposit bonus count as the minimum deposit?

A bonus is promotional credit under its own terms. It is a different line from cash credited from your payment. Read the qualifying deposit and the withdrawal conditions on the promotion you were offered.

Does cashback reduce the amount I need to send?

A rebate is worked out later, on trades that qualify. It does not subtract from the first cash credit, and it does not change the RBI Alert List or the LRS margin rule.

Is XM named on the RBI Alert List?

The Alert List updated as on 19 November 2025 names XM and xm.com at item 33, among entities that are not authorised to deal in forex under FEMA or to operate a forex electronic trading platform. Check the current list before you rely on an older screenshot.

Can a resident use LRS to send trading margin?

The LRS Master Direction says remittances for margins or margin calls to overseas exchanges or an overseas counterparty are not allowed under the scheme. The RBI FAQ gives the same answer for online forex trading. A low account minimum does not change that rule.

What if the credited amount is below the floor?

The floor is compared with the balance that arrived, after any charge taken by the bank or payment service. If that credit is short, the account floor is still unmet. Keep the payment receipt next to the account credit.

Can a small balance be reduced by an inactivity charge?

The costs document tied to a CySEC licence describes a monthly dormant fee of USD 10 after 90 calendar days without trading, deposits, or withdrawals, or the full free balance when that balance is under USD 10. Another company’s agreement can state a different charge. Read the clause on yours.

Does paying the minimum make the account permitted in India?

No. Authorisation is a FEMA and RBI question about who may deal in forex and on which platform. A credited deposit, a rebate, or an overseas licence on one group company does not answer that question.
